Travolta and Hackman do a great job of riffing off each other as characters from opposing worlds. The film pokes some fun at Hollywood that will hit home with movie-lovers, but, for everyone else, it's still a fun twist on the gangster genre with a witty, well-acted script. |

Get Shorty is the perfect comedy that lasts time. It only gets better and better with each viewing. This is also one of Travoltas best work. |

It's a shame this movie is SO complicated/hard to follow the first time you watch it, because it makes it hard for people to see how great it is. If you can get someone to watch it twice (assuming they haven't forgotten the whole thing by the 2nd time they watch it) then hopefully they'll see what a gem it really is.
This movie is hilarious, a fine example of dry American humor. The jokes are very deeply rooted in the back-and-forth dialog and the way a character responds to each other character in the movie. But because it's so character-driven, it's (again) hard to appreciate the first time you see it.
The bottom line is that this movie is worth the time it takes to appreciate it. |

Funny and witty. The dialog was defiantly the center of this hilarious movie. The story and acting were also great. I liked how the story weaved in and out while showing you bits and pieces of everything that was going on before showing you their connections. |

A debt collector who wants to transition his career into Hollywood. Chili Palmer (John Travolta), a film buff who has a flair in the movie industry, converses with Harry Zimm (Gene Hackman). Ray "Bones" Barboni (Dennis Farina) instantly becomes Chili's boss since his former boss Momo dies accidentally. Palmer meets a B-movie actress Karen Flores (Rene Russo) and pitches the script to the popular actor Martin Weir (Danny DeVito). Bo tries to get rid of Chili but Bear helps him out. The movie pushes thru and actor Harvey Keitel playing Barboni and Martin Weir as Palmer. A few lines from the flick: Chili - "Rough business this movie business. I may have to go back to loan sharking for a rest." "I mean I could see myself in movies Robert De Niro had been in. Or I could maybe do an Al P... |
