Although we have to wait for the epic death-match between Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees; Freddy vs. Jason delivers some excitement with the exclusion of poor special effects that ten-year olds can even spot. |

Throwing two horror icons together in a smackdown of epic proportions sounds great, but, you know, you have to have a smackdown. The whole buddy-buddy thing was dragged on far too long and the battle far too short. I wanted so much more. |

Action: 2/3 + Comedy: 1/2 + Love/Sex: 0/1 + Plot: 0.5/1 + Music: 0/1 + Good vs. Evil: 1/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 = 5/10 or 50%.
The minor sub-plots here are the most interesting thing: Freddy's hometown is drugging their children so Freddy won't manifest, Freddy and Jason are in hell trying to con their way out. Aside from that, everything is pure Hollywood B-level fluff. When Jason and Freddy finally battle it's somewhat fun, but nowhere near the conclusion we deserve for sitting through the set-up. |

Two horror stars fight it out... |
|
A lot of people are not crazy about this film. I remember stories about the script being rewritten several times, which is not always a good sign.
Okay so it does not have the greatest story. How many horror films do though? They are meant to scare you. Creeps sneaking up on people, teens hiding under the bed and in closets with creepy music in the background, gross death scenes, ghosts, monsters....these are the things we see and expect in horror films. We don't always care about a good plot.
So with that said, I really like this film because of the fight scenes between Freddy and Jason. I was not even sure who I was rooting for either. Probably Jason...he drowned when he was an innocent kid, while Freddy butchered children.

A disappointing clash of horror icons |
|
It could have been the greatest horror meet-up since "King Kong vs. Godzilla", but what it was was a poor attempt at bringing the two horror icons of the last twenty years.
"Freddy Kruger" (Robert Englund) returns to "Elm Street", but due to the fact that his powers are too weak, he conjures up the psychopathic zombie "Jason Voorhees" (Ken Kirzinger) to scare his pending victims in the real world so he can scare them to death in his dream world.
This movie is not scary, then again -- movies like this are never are. You always know something is about to happen when the music cues you that something is about to happen. And when something does, you're not screaming your head off.
The violence is not done very well, and looks pretty fake. There is also one scene where "Freddy" app... |

Review - Freddy vs. Jason (2003) |
|
Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) didn't have the souls he needed in order to go in his usual killing spree, so he decided to resurrect Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger) to do his bidding. But when Jason keeps on killing, Freddy decides that it's time he took over in “Freddy vs. Jason.”
The pairing of Freddy and Jason is one that I honestly never would have seen coming. They just seem too different to be in the same movie together. However, the result ended up being more entertaining than anything in the Freddy's franchise, and (as far as I've seen) the same goes with Jason.
Before watching, you have to know that it's a movie made specifically for fans and does not try to get a wider audience. It's a straightforward slasher cross-over that exists to entertain. Even so, the story is actua... |
