As heavy as "The Neon Demon" is on visuals, it is unfortunate that it's just as light on coherent plot and character development.

What a colossal borefest. Nicolas Winding Refn is a one-trick pony. Bore the audience to death and then kill off half the characters because he knows no one will care by the end. Just so long it's over with.

Nicolas Winding Refn - you either get him or don't. Stylistically, Neon Demon is superb - the lighting and color, cinematography - par excellence. The dialogue and pacing isn't as good - but stick with it, the ending is a killer. Elle Fanning and Jena Malone are standouts here, and look for Keanu Reeves in a small role as a sleazy motel operator. Though a bit slow, it's a great effort all around.

The Neon Demon - Movie Review

Matthew Brady - wrote on 09/05/2016

Sarah: "What does it feel like, to walk into a room, and it's like in the middle of winter. You're the sun."

Jesse: "It's everything".

The Neon Demon is a movie experience that I will never forget. From the minute it starts, I was glued to the screen and not once could I look away, even with the long silent moments, I was still hooked. The LA lights are something to drift away too.

Nicolas Winding Refn can be a love or hate thing with me. I loved "Drive" and "Bronson". I didn't like "Valhalla Rising" and "Only God Forgives" that much. He's got talent, I can see that and I know that he wants to make movies that only he wants to see, and not just for others. I think we all can agree that all of he's movies are shot so beautifully and if one of he's movies as the word "Neon" in the …

Refn's Bizarre Fetishes Realized

Unknown - wrote on 07/04/2016

'The Neon Demon' is the latest hyper-stylized offering from director Refn. Even when I don't like one of Refn's films, I still find something to admire in his superb visual presentation. Luckily, this is one of his best to date. 'The Neon Demon' has the slow plotless-ness of 'Only God Forgives' combined with the structure and investing characters of 'Drive'. The mesh of the two creates a constantly fascinating weird trip that gradually gives way to more bizarre happenings - culminating in an absolute crazy finale that holds brute literal meaning. The movie's message and themes are front and center. There's no need for confusing dissection after viewing. It's all laid out in purposefully brash fashion. I was drawn in through the dream-like quality of the visuals and music. Every …
