A cyber-stalker winds up on house arrest after he's discovered. Not long after, he watches the target of his cyber-stalking commit suicide on a call on Skype. Then, her spirit begins haunting him. Dark Summer starts as a monster-in-the-house thriller and turns into a supernatural mystery gone wrong. The main twist of the film is unique, but the rest of the script really falls short. I feel like the actors did a good job with what they were given, but there's only so much you can do with a bland horror script. Luckily, the score and sound effects add to the horror elements. Unfortunately, it's not enough to push Dark Summer to greatness. It's worth seeing for horror fans for it's unique elements, but there are better options available.

Average at best - the pacing is really what kills this movie as scenes that drag on lose all that tense buildup you want in a psychological type horror movies. Kier Gilchrist can do horror well (see It Follows for proof) but he is kind of dull here. The rest of the cast is a bit wasted, including Peter Stormare as the gruff parole officer. All in all, a rather disappointing effort with little payoff.
