There's not much to the explosive premise and plot, but Sylvester Stallone wrings every ounce of machismo into his portrayal of a bad-ass war veteran looking for revenge. The film takes more of a brooding pace, but when the film's action scenes strike, they strike hard.

One of the iconic figures in action films. Stallone really became John Rambo in this one. I thought the pace of the film, cinematography and acting was good. A very likable character and the emotions displayed make you sympathize with his obstacles. His survival instincts are impressive to watch. Plot, characters and settings were developed well. Rambo does justice to this genre, its all about the heart, mind and realism.

Simple and straightforward, with great (non-over the top) action. A veteran survivalist put against his own side, in an act of injustice, makes for a radically different and more intriguing action hero. Stallone plays it stone cold with an underlying emotional confusion that surfaces at the end. Overall great film.

"First Blood" by Yojimbo

Some times a sequel can take the concept of the original film and expand and elaborate on it in interesting ways. Others are just soulless, hulking abominations that suck the life out of the original until you forget that it was actually quite good. In First Blood Sly does what he does best as another stoic everyman (lets face it, when it comes to Stallone's performances, the less he says the better) who reverts to his survivalist training when persecuted by an arrogant and egotistical small town sheriff. There's no point in over-intellectualizing it, this is no analogy or "message" about the treatment of American soldiers in the aftermath of Vietnam. It is merely a tautly directed and well executed action thriller. Brian Dennehy is great as the hick sheriff who lets his ego get in the wa...

Don't mess with the vets!

“They drew first blood not me." This line alone sums up the entire film. If they just left Rambo alone, he would have walked through the small town, and no harm would have came to anybody. But alas, this is not how things pan out in this superb action film.

First blood is a movie about a Vietnam War Vet who comes home from the war and realizes that he is the only one from his group that survived. All of his real friends died in the war, and now he has nothing left. So as he’s drifting through a town he gets stopped by a cop that offers to drive him to where he wants to go. Rambo gets in and asks if there’s anyplace he can get something to eat. The cop says he can go 30 miles up the highway. What ensues is Rambo getting dropped off, he heads back, the cop stops him, arrests him, Rambo ...

A Classic

John Rambo is a disoriented Vietnam Vet. He is hitchhiking from town to town to see friends from the war. A sheriff tries to make him leave town and when he refuses, arrests him for vagrancy. While in jail, a deputy takes delight in abusing him. Rambo escapes showing his old Vietnam fighting skills and takes to the woods as the sheriff and deputies try and find him in his element. Things get out of hand as Colonel Trautman Rambo's old commander appears to shed light on the situation.

First Blood is the definition of action movies. The well known character of John Rambo is an icon the film world, as he has had 3 sequels and plenty of little knock offs and such to compensate for the star. So now a days, when I watch action movies, I tend to think about what happened to them. In the 80's...
