One this is for certain - this movie will make its mark on you. It just goes to show how ingrained into our minds that we must obey an authority figure - a boss, a police officer - or just someone in charge. The psychological impact is as truly astounding as it is uncomfortable to watch.

I have to applaud this film for being uncompromising and completely honorable to the true story that it is portraying. Most will find the events to be uncomfortable and morally askew. That is the intent of the film and it completely succeeds, thanks to the superb directing and acting. It leaves many questions about the psychology of obedience to authority figures.

Review: Compliance

Craig Zobel's Compliance tells the true and disturbing story about a fast-food joint that gets a prank phone call that soon transitions into dark territories and negatively effects many of the store's employees. In Compliance, the fast-food restaurant is managed by the ambitious Sandra (Ann Dowd), and she receives a phone call from a police officer who tells her that one the employees, Becky (Dreama Walker), stole money from a customer. Sandra complies to all of the officer's "mandatory" requests, and takes Becky to the back to interrogate her. Did Becky steal from a customer? She says otherwise. When Becky is given two options to prove herself innocent -- get taken to jail or let Sandra strip search her -- the officer's requests get dark, personal, and quite weird, and they can also have...

Compliance

For once the 'Based on Actual Events' card is true, which makes Compliance all the more unsettling. A hard film to endure, but an important one that everyone should see at least once. It's thought provoking for sure, how far would you go if a supposed 'authority of the law' told you to do things that are vile, violating, and crosses inappropriate boundaries. If this had been a fictional tale, it would be easy to write off due to it's credibility. But since what happens in the film has happened 70 or more times in 30 states, makes it absolutely sickening and ridiculous. I was infuriated and squirming in my seat the entire time. Kudos to director Craig Zobel for causing some unbearable tension in such a restricted setting (most of the film takes place in the back of a fast food restaur...
