Set in New Orleans, Dylan, an investigator of undead gets back to his job just for one case. He finds himself and his client situated against vampires and werewolves.
***
To say it straight, I didn't like this movie. The story started good but ended up like "whuutt?? " Brandon Routh's VOs are indeed, "over". I found his voice distracting and narrating everything. However, I really appreciated Sam Huntingtin's performance. |

I won't proclaim this as a "good" movie per se, but it was a lot better than the previews or lame box office would have had me believe. The thought of undead roaming New Orleans (and werewolves too) is better than it sounds. Plus, the way they treated zombies was pretty outstanding. Brandon Routh is still wooden as hell, but a decent rental. |

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night review |
|
Dylan Dog (Brandon Routh) is a private detective who gave up fighting monsters. He is aided by Marcus Deckler (Sam Huntington) and is eventual a victim of the same killer of Elizabeth’s (Anita Briem) father. Brandon Routh’s performance just kills the coolness of the character, impossibility of how he can even walk after the final brutal fight was questionable, and the sudden personality of Elizabeth for personal motive was preposterous. Even the romantic angle was absurd. Sam Huntington definitely steals the scenes with his comedic timing/lines. Soundtrack and direction could have been better. Humor was spot-on, if only the rest of the film were improved. Dylan Dog had its positive and negative aspects, still worth a watch for fans of monsters (zombies, vampires, werewolves and eve... |

Trashy B-movies acting and storytelling |
|
I'm not really a fan of the comics version of Dylan Dog, but I've read a few, so it was a surprise to see Dylan Dog not set in London, and without his faithful comic sidekick Groucho - the latter I guess was a matter of copyrights, but why changing the setting? OK, no problem there actually - New Orleans is also perfect place for otherworldly adventures. But the story was soooo crappy. Is that a way you script a detective story, regardless the supernatural elements? Fleeing randomly from one suspect to another without real clues or better said without any second thoughts about them - that is not storytelling. However, Routh's voiceovers did evoke a bit of Dylan Dog from the comics. Routh himself, not so much. He is not really a Dylan Dog I would pick (just a sidenote - Dylan Dog is actual... |

Dylan Dog: Dead of night |
|
Creatures that most people believe are just fantasy walk among us hidden in plain sight. Dylan Dog was once appointed as a human to be a neutral party that could step in if any of the fractions went to far. Today he is retired from supernatural cases and run a regular detective agency. That is until a young lady ask him to track down whatever it was that killed her father.
I was very skeptical to this movie, but given the genre described I was curious. What I found was a well written story that describe a reality where various monster lore is combined, and where the various supernatural creatures live in relative peace among humans in New Orleans. I liked the story and the actors did a good performance. Do however not quite agree with the genre here at Filmcrave. This is not a scary ... |
