Who wants to see Sylvester Stallone kill a lot of people!? If you said "I do!" Cobra is your movie. Of course, Sylvester Stallone killing a lot of people is all you get - forget about things like plot and characters or other such nonsense. Action and lots of it - but if that's what you're in the mood for, go for it. |

"Cobra" by Yojimbo |
|
Marion Cobretti is a cop. A cop who doesn't play by the "rules". A cop who gets results. A cop who dresses like a male stripper. A cop who is clearly in love with his car and probably jerks off over copies of Guns & Ammo. The villains are a collection of killers who casually slaughter everyone in their way, conveniently removing any need for a plot or characterisation so a Sly untroubled by thought or conscience can just throw enough ordnance at them to invade the continental USA, while the surrounding traffic spontaneously explode into balls of flame. Brigitte Nielsen (another of cinema's finest acting talents) is also on hand to model a series of crimes against fashion to a horrific AOR rawk ballad, intercut with a montage of gratuitous violence while the bad guy sharpens his weapon. Th... |

Classic Stallone Film |
|
Despite traditionally negative reviews, Cobra is a Sylvester Stallone classic. The film is generally in the same vein as Dirty Harry where the moral is that police who operate within the modern legal code can't get the job done so they must break the rules. Cobra generally follows the style of the Rambo movies and 80s Action cop movies but has a much higher production value. The movie tells the epic of a Police Detective fighting off an entire biker gang to protect his love interest (using over-the-top weapons like an assault riffle and grenades). Brian Thompson contributes a fairly menacing antagonist for Stallone to combat in one of the best choreographed knife fight sequences in cinema. The Stallone-Nielson romance subplot comes across a little corny but is authentic (as the two were i... |

Somewhat weak plot and action. But pretty good |
|
"Marion 'Cobra' Cobretti" (Sylvester Stallone) is a cop who is not afraid to risk his life to get the bad guy, and comes in as a last resort. He patrols a city with a high crime rate that is in the grip of a serial killer the media has nicknamed the "Night Slasher."
Those involved in the investigation to catch the killer are going nowhere, and "Cobretti" gets involved when he is assigned to protect the only surviving witness (Brigitte Nielsen) to one of the killer's murder. Using his police skills, "Cobretti" is one step ahead of the others, and figures out some points of the case before the others. However, his suggestions are pushed to the side by certain members of the team who do not like the way he handles things.
Now, "Cobretti" and his partner (Reni Santoni) must protect the ... |
