Rating of

Charming romantic comedy cum Hitchcockesque thriller starring two of the best in the business. The romance works rather better than the thriller element, as the plot becomes so convoluted and melodramatic it gets rather silly and never seems to be sure whether to takes itself seriously or not. Worth it for the sheer star quality of the leads, and a nicely understated supporting role for Walter Matthau.

Mystery, suspense, murder, comedy and romance. This movie has all the bases covered. It's a smart flick that keeps you on your toes and constantly throws you for a loop. Hepburn and Grant are quite charming. I enjoyed it immensely.

There's some charming acting by Grant and Hepburn. The plot isn't as masterfully developed as a Hitchcock film, but it still provides a certain level of intrigue that is balanced by some witty comedic writing.

Fantastic Script and Lots of Twists

I guess I should mention that I'm a sucker for a good mystery novel. I love reading them, and I enjoy being surprised at the end. Of course, the best mysteries won't rely entirely on a shocking conclusion. Witty dialogue, memorable characters, reasonable suspense, and most importantly, plot twists, must be peppered and laced throughout. The great thing about Charade, is that it takes everything that you could possibly want in a mystery novel, and puts it all under one roof.

A young woman named Regina Lambert finds herself in possession of a large sum of money when her husband dies and leaves her $250,000. Unfortunately for her, three men are convinced that the money is theirs, and they're determined to get it back. With no one else to turn to, Regina puts her trust in a stranger named ...

Charade (1963) review

Rarely can one find an entertaining mixture of romantic comedy suspense mystery spy thriller. Unexpected twists and turns coupled with endearing performances from the leads makes this a classic on its own (too bad it was compared to a Hitchcock film when it can be viewed as an original picture worth viewing countless times). Regina "Reggie" (Audrey Hepburn) encounters Peter Joshua (Cary Grant). Her husband gets murdered and the search for the hidden cash (but another plot twist to be revealed throughout the film) while Brian Cruikshank's persona would be revealed.

Score was endearing exhibiting the precise mood depending on the scene. Onscreen chemistry and flawless delivery of the dialogues were present. Humor was never forced and it's impossible for the viewer not to laugh or ...

"Charade" by Amanda

Directed by Stanley Donen, widely remembered as the director of "Singin' in the Rain," "Charade" feels like lite Romantic Comedy/Thriller popcorn fare on its surface yet manages to tell its mystery through a Hitchcockian lens. Starring Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Walter Matheau, the cast is nothing short of what Peter Stone's rich storytelling material deserves. The musical score is composed by one of modern cinema's greats: Henry Mancini. Remember the "Pink Panther" theme? How about "Breakfast at Tiffany's" sweet tune "Moon River?" Did I mention the opening credits were concocted by none other than Maurice Binder, famous for all of the great James Bond flick opening credits? Yes the down the gun barrel shot...Bond fires back...the screen drenched in blood. It is as recognizable as Geo...
