What a great cast! This movie was awesome and has a very nostalgic feel to it. It has the cross-country road trip aspect, comic book references, aliens, drinking, buddy-movie aspect. It is a lot of fun. Pegg again, proves his awesomeness. |

I didn't quite know what to expect with this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. Loved the actors, the story line, and all the geeky sci-fi references. Made me laugh and and warmed my heart throughout the whole thing. |

"Paul" by Yojimbo |
|
Two English comic book nerds on the road in the American mid west have a close encounter with a stranded alien and decide to help him evade capture by the sinister Men In Black who are pursuing him. The epic ongoing bromance between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost becomes an extra-terrestial menage-a-trois with the addition of Seth Rogen's chain smoking, smart mouthed E.T. in this amusing road movie from the Spaced school. Essentially a homage to John Carpenter's Starman with added dashes of Close Encounters and E.T., Paul has that easy going charm and feel good factor that most American nerd comedies completely miss; there's something much more likeable about a British geek for some reason (maybe it's just because I can relate...) Pegg and Frost play off each other as effortlessly as ever to t... |

A fun comedy for fans of comedy and sci-fi! |
|
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are two straight guys who take a long-awaited trip to San Diego for the Comic Con festival. On their way across the country, they encounter a foul-mouthed, smoking alien dude (voiced by Seth Rogan) named Paul who having been used by the government for knowledge (including advising Steven Spielberg on 'E.T') has outlived his usefulness and is looking to get back to his mothership.
Sci-fi fans will get a real kick out of this, as there are a number of references to sci-fi movies, both famous and obscure. With a secretive government official named Lorenzo Zoil (Jason Bateman) along with two other bumbling detectives hot on their tails, and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, 'Paul' maintains the laughs until the end, with plenty ... |

Ugh, I Wanted It to be Good |
|
I really wanted to like this movie and I did enjoy parts of it, but, frankly, it isn't very good. The film's main downfall, in fact, is it's title character, portrayed by Seth Rogen as a vulgar, weed-smoking, often rude extraterrestrial. The thing is, making Rogen's Paul a type of every other character Rogen has played recently makes "Paul" "just another Seth Rogen movie," rather than the geek-fueled homage to sci-fi films it desperately wants to be. The film's best moments come from references to wonder-filled films such as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "E.T." and Simon Pegg & Nick Frost do an admirable job of capturing the sort of childlike glee two comic book nerds might display upon meeting an actual alien. The R-rated humor feels forced in this film and actually distra... |
