Plot: With France all but ruined following the 100 years war - a young farm girl hears a voice - the voice of God, she claims - telling her to lead an army to Orleans and crown Dauphin Charles VII king. Her faith brings many, and her army does indeed take Orleans - and her next target is Paris itself. But the weak-willed Charles sells his country out to England - the army is disbanded and Joan is captured and subjected to a farcical, humiliating trial. -- Chris Kavan
