If you're looking for a really bad horror film, look no further. But don't be fooled - this isn't so bad-it's-good - it's just plain bad. From the story to actors, it just feels like a made-for-TV movie with slightly better effects.

One of the crapiest things I've ever seen. Avoid by all means. PS: Lou Diamond Phillips, please, stop " acting ".

Just plain bad. Should have been a "Sci-fi channel original movie". The dialog was crappy, the acting was bad and the plot was just really weak. Don't waste anytime with this movie unless you love crappy movies that aren't humorous.

Run.. Run fast... Far from this movie!

This movie is very typical of a horror movie. Unfortunately, unlike some others (such as The Haunting or Dawn of the Dead), Bats has NO redeeming qualities. The plot is typical, and thus predictable. The acting is average, or very poor. You will recognize the dialogue as those same lines repeated time and time again in other movies. You will see the same techniques (not the good ones) used over and over in other movies. The bats look stupid, and the characters do very unintelligent things. The movie even has the "need to start motor - and it won't the first try" scene...which you see coming several light years away. You can predict early on who will die and who will live. The bats or the characters make it obvious when the attack is coming - so no element of surprise exists. What's worse …

Fairly creepy

An unnamed Texas town has a big problem. It is under the threat of a very large pack of genetically altered bats, specifically the breed known as flying foxes.

A bat expert (Dina Meyer), her assistant (Leon) and the town's opera-loving sheriff (Lou Diamond Phillips) join forces to try to destroy the bats before it's too late.

The first thing you will notice is that this movie, which is obviously a B-movie, is that it is pretty creepy. The bats, which look like they are made of rubber at times, are very ugly and shot in dim light to make them creepy. The bats are also well constructed puppets which moved pretty realistically.

The acting is fairly good in the movie. Meyers and Phillips are easily the best of the cast. The supporting cast of characters is not written strongly. …
