This is very different from Sam Peckinpah's other westerns. It's pretty much a comedy-drama with very little action or violence. Almost a buddy film if you will between Jason Robards and David Warner. Stella Stevens is mostly there for fanservice (and a welcome one at that!) but she has her funny moments. It's not a bad film but it does just kind of leisurely stroll from scene to scene.

Underrated, masterful Western. The way Peckinpah mixes elements of macabre humor and traditional Western action is brilliant. Plus, this film is knee-deep in classic panoramic beautiful Old West photography.
