Plot Outline:

After the death of her husband, Alice and her 11-year-old son leave their Socorro, New Mexico home and plan to make it to Monterrey, California. Alice is a singer and, in order to fund the trip, plans to take odd jobs along the way - but she eventually finds herself as a waitress. -- Chris Kavan

This film starts to show Martin Scorsese's greatness. The characters and emotions portrayed here are raw, gritty, and, overall, real. Not a "fun" film by any stretch, but an important one.
