I can see what they were trying to do with this film, but the tension never gets high enough and despite the trust issues, it never hit an emotional high with me. The casting was great, but the actors can't compensate for the material.

This movie was a little boring. It didn't get me interested with what was going on. Too many of these terrorist movies that take place in the middle east fall short.

Skip it

I turned it off after an hour. I tried to get into it, really did. It probably doesn't help that the movie starts right in the middle of the action without really establishing either of the main characters. Russell Crowe does his usual chameleon work by disappearing into his role, but the script just didn't get my interest.

Ridley Scott Does It Again

This is a very intricate and detailed film. Now saying that it was actually rather slow for a thriller so I think in order to fully enjoy it the viewer should view it as a drama. There is action but the piece mainly deals with character, and relationships. For instance the main character played by Dicaprio is connected to pretty much every other character in the film. I think character is one of Ridley Scott's strong suites and that he does it exceptionally well here. Very entertaining and relevant film that I enjoyed very much.

Fails to be anything but standard.

This film just does not have that much to it to be great but it is okay. It is a standard spy movie with standard action scenes and a far too standard love story. The only non standard things in this are the two higher ups but they are not given enough screen time to make this anything but standard. I found it surprisingly routine but still enjoyable enough to watch. So I would not say avoid it but I would not say you gotta watch it now.

Pros: Good performances from Russell Crowe and Mark Felt, and okay ones from everyone else. Shot well enough with accurate technology used apparently.

Cons: Nothing to it and the main hero really is a stock character. Plastered on romantic interest, and the plot for some reason never seems that important.

40%

Action: 1.5 / 3, Comedy: 0 / 2, Good vs Evil: 0 / 1, Love/Sex: 0.5 / 1, Special Effects: 0.5 / 1, Plot: 1 /1, Music: 0.5 / 1 = 4/10 or 40%.

The theme and plot of Body of Lies is initially intriguing, but after the first fifteen minutes of the film one has seen everything. Thus, the overall effort is stillborn and Scott falls back on typical elements to force the weak story onward. These forced elements, namely a sudden love interest for the main character and manifestation of the Jordanian version of Crowe's CIA head, render the serious scope Scott sets up back to the over treaded territory of such films as the Saint.
