Plot: Everyone's favorite mad scientist Herbert West is currently in jail after having state's evidence turned against him by his former assistant, Dan Cain. While being led away, some re-agent falls from his pocket where it is picked up by a young man that was camping nearby. The young man find Herbert down in his jail cell and learns for himself just what the re-agent is capable of.

Closer in tone to the original. Has a strong opening scene and a crazy ending, but not much else in between except uninspired writing and bad acting. I'd only recommend this for the fairly good "cheap" f/x work.

Dr West continues his research in prison aided by an idealistic young doctor but his seemingly successful new serum contains an unfortunate and unforeseen side effect. Obviously trying to recapture the gory fun of Sam Raimi's early work, Beyond Reanimator's budget clearly limits its options but it still remains a tongue in cheek gorefest much in the spirit of the original. Jeffry Combs returns as the obsessive and amoral West and is joined by a no-name cast who gamely dismember each other surrounded by some adequately rendered blood and guts. The main drawback is the fact that the set up is far more effective than the pay off as it descends into novelty gore and nudity coloured by some outright silliness rather than exploring the darker themes of the idea.
