This is a tasteful, well-acted film. With a moving story and some terrific humor, 'About Schmidt' seems to work on all levels. What stands out for me, is the wonderful acting range of Jack Nichsolson. I was struck especially, by Nicholson's fragile yet brash performance. He has such a delicious way of blending humor with raw emotion. Kathy Bates is sizzling as usual. And although there are some slow moments, the film overall, works well. If you enjoy wholesome self-discovery stories, I urge you to check this one out! B+ |

Although I generally love Alexander Payne's quirky visual style, I especially love this film for its subtle dialogue and visual cues. It's a pretty "quiet" film, but one that still manages to be funny, while being introspective. |

A strange and disconnected story. Bates was very good and there are some funny parts. Lots of disturbing parts also. |

I think that this is a highly underrated movie. It's certainly one of Nicholson's best. It's funny, and a little sad as well. The best scene is, of course, the one where Kathy Bates goes topless. That, was f***in' awesome! Kathy Bates RULES! |

About Schmidt is not the happiest of films - and it doesn't paint the Midwest in the best light. However, it makes one examine their own life puts it into focus. Some people might classify this film as boring - I think it's anything but. |

About Schmidt review |

"I know we're all pretty small in the big scheme of things, and I suppose the most you can hope for is to make some kind of difference, but what kind of difference have I made?" Spectacular mix of comedy, drama and a touch of intellient moral messages. A story focused on Warren Schmidt (Jack Nicholson) who retires from his insurance company and witnesses something on television. He sponsors a child named Ndugu and writes a letter about his personal information. As soon as he mails the letter he discovers Helen has passed away while cleaning on the floor. Jeannie (Hope Davis) has a tlk with Warren and discusses about the casket. Warren dicovered that Helen and his best friend Ray had an affair. He passes by places he recognizes and is met by Roberta Hertzel (Kathy Bates) before Jean... |
