The epic miniseries follows Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call - two former Texas Rangers looking to move their cattle from the south up to Montana. This miniseries is absolutely fantastic. The film uses a cross-country cattle herding journey to feature vignettes that portray the brutality and integrity of Western life. The cast is impressive throughout, but, no doubt the standouts are veteran actors Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, and Danny Glover, each of whom creates a fully-formed, nuanced character that, over the course of 6 hours, you grow to know and love. The series features some powerful emotional scenes, some beautiful photography, and some absolutely heartbreaking moments (let's just say the series isn't afraid to kill off any of its characters at a moment's notice.) One of the best Westerns ever made, in my opinion.
