Rex Hofman (Gene Bervoets) and Saskia Wagter (Johanna ter Steege) are on vacation. Saskia disappears mysteriously and Rex searches for her. Raymond Lemorne (Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu) is the person responsible for the abducted women. Pacing was somewhat snail-paced; soundtrack was almost non-existent and the antagonist was not scary and was dumbfounded in one of the scenes with one of the failed attempts. Acting was descent and subjects of crime, persistence and truth were evident. The Vanishing reminded this rater of Memento, unfortunately less engaging.

There are few films that illustrate the hideous nature of Hollywood remakes than than the 1992 American version of this Dutch classic. Ironically, the same director was responsible for both films. Based on the novel The Golden Egg, this charts a boyfriend's almost endless search for his girl who goes disappears at a Dutch service station. The 'banality of evil' has become something of a cliched phrase now but this film reclaims its true meaning like no other.

A really interesting and intriguing movie. Unfortunately, it's not the very best horror film but it's worth a watch.

One of the best endings to any film, this movie focuses on compulsion of two different sorts. Even though you know who the villain is early on, its amazing to see how he got there through well-placed flash-backs. An excellent thriller.
