Plot: Jo is a working-class girl who spurns her mother - a loud, domineering drunk and finally leaves when she suddenly marries. Out on the street, she takes residence with Geoffrey, a gay co-worker. After a one-night-stand with a black sailor leaves her pregnant, and Geoffrey takes on the role of a surrogate father as he prepares for the birth.
