Miscast Cold War melodrama with a weird backstory

This was not a very good movie. But it's a fascinating movie only because of who's involved.
John friggin Wavne is paired with Janet Leigh. And it was produced by Howard Hughes and was the last film by famed director Josef von Sternberg. And the legendary pilot Chuck Yeager even did some flying for the film production!
I will admit the flying scenes are actually pretty cool. And the movie does start out funny. Even though John Wayne and Janet Leigh don't have that much chemistry, their inital scenes together did have some charm to it.
But the movie overstays its welcome. And apparently it was released in 1957 after completing its production in 1953! In the end, this is one of the Duke's lesser films and a strange role for Janet Leigh early in her career. But that backstory makes it …
