If not for HUAC and the lead actor being blacklisted, "The Breaking Point" might have went on to become a Curtiz classic. Instead, it's an underseen gem about smuggling, thievery, and killing that is just waiting to be rediscovered by a wider audience.

A good blend of seafaring adventure and film noir. John Garfield and Patricia Neal have great chemistry together with a strong supporting performance by Juano Hernandez. The ending is heartbreaking.
