Hitchcock would make better films with much more craftsmanship in the years to come, but this spy thriller is an intriguing curio of his early career.

The 39 Steps has a far lighter tone than most of Hitchcock's work and proves that he had a comic touch as well as being the master of suspense.

A fast, tight and entertaining thriller. I would have expected no less from Hitchcock. If you like 'North by Northwest', then seek out this classic immediately.
