Unbelievably grim but archetypal doomed romance movie that reeks of French art house. Beautiful to look at and Beatrice Dalle is both captivating and heartbreaking as the deeply troubled Betty.

I saw the director's cut and it dragged. However, this movie is essential to see for Beatrice Dalle's potential. Unfortunately, her career was ruined due to drug addition, but that is ok, bc she still takes interesting roles. Overall, an intense portrait of young lovers.

Our Daily Free Stream: Jean-Jacques Beineix - betty Blue. Liebe ist nicht gleichbedeutend mit Nacktheit. Eine im Grunde offensichtliche Tatsache, die Jean-Jacques Beineix sich jedoch weigert zu akzeptieren. Er hat eine romantische Obsession verfilmt - mit ganz, ganz viel nackter Haut. Es war die dritte Arbeit des Franzosen, der das französische Kino während der 80er runderneuerte, aber auch von vielen Cineasten verlacht wurde. Beineix polarisiert und das tut er auch mit Betty Blue. Eingangs sehen wir, wie sich ein Paar unter dem Portrait der Mona Lisa liebt. Der Erzähler führt uns ein, sie würden das jede Nacht machen. Die Sex-Szene dauert minutenlang und ist selbst heute, 30 Jahre später, noch ungewöhnlich freizügig! Der Erzähler ist übrigens der Mann im Bett. Er heisst Zorg …
