Love and bookstores. We need more Tom & Meg movies. Cute enough to hold me for awhile.

Slightly better than most rom-com's. It's basically 'Sleepless in Seattle', but with e-mail.

Starts out interested but a bit too long for such a simple premise. Sleepless in Seattle was definitely better and even the supporting characters were not that interesting. Its simplicity is not that memorable and the pairing of Hanks and Ryan doesn't really sparkle. You've Got Mail is dated, but was effective in that point in time.

A love letter to New York!

Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) who owns a children's book shop is being put out of business by a big bookstore tycoon Joe Fox - and unknowingly developing a deep relationship with him by email under the aliases of 'Shopgirl' and 'NY152'.

Both are in unhappy relationships which are going nowhere but they unwittingly meet each other online and offer each other support, friendship and the possibility of something more. Yet when Joe and Kathleen meet in real life, they can't help but spit poison at each other.
Tom Hanks is the perfect mix of being a serious business man on one hand, and a caring, compassionate friend on the other. He's the "villain" in this movie, but a more likable villain I've never encountered, or cheered for! Joe learns the truth first and plays with Kathleen for awhile, ...
