Plot Outline:
Frank Galvin (Paul Newman) in an Oscar-nominated role, is an alcoholic, ambulance-chasing, washed-up attorney. Picking up a medical malpractice suit that is gifted to him by a fellow attorney (Jack Warden), he goes against a high-powered law firm and takes it to court rather than settle, redeeming himself along the way.

This court film could have been tedious and mundane, given the subject matter, with an entirely different cast. Paul Newman gives a career performance as the once disgraced, but determined lawyer Frank Galvin. The film also includes some sobering and involving supporting performances, including an aged James Mason as the opposing lawyer.

A great court drama with fantastic performances from the players. It is an interesting story to follow especially because of the believable character Newman plays so well. I also liked the fact that the other lawyer just as well played by James Mason was given a proper amount of time. Overall a great film to watch and see what happens, and to see the character of arc of Newman's character. I am glad there were not any pure evil villains and I thought the ending was very effective.
