Action from start to finish, could have been a little shorter with parts of the slaying scene removed. Wonderful special effects, with some talented actors. Anything dealing with demonds is always a plus. |

Another sad example of style over substance. What could have been an action-packed drama is instead turned into a CGI monsterfest with flashy visuals and zero in the plot and character development department. |

Awful, awful take on my favorite novel of all time: Dracula. The cast is phenomenal, so why didn't anyone stop Stephen Sommers on his parade of terrible effects, ghastly writing, and poorly adapted charactes? I would like to find the producers and slap them silly. Wretched, awful, terrible. The 2nd worst action movie of all time. |

Van Helsing |

I loved the concept of this movie, but not the execution. The basic story was well though out, cleverly including most of the major horror characters from the classic Universal films of the 1030's and 1940's. However, there was way too much focus on visual effects over character. It is sad statement when the Frankenstein monster is the most fully-developed character! The wacky Friar, and Kate Beckinsale running around in high-heeled boots while chaisng monsters, do more to ruin the reality of the movie than the creatures themselves.
As always, I monitored the smoking scenes in the film. The cigar-chomping (and scene-chewing) Mr Hyde managed to single-handedly earn this movie a SmokeScreeners rating of 3 Butts! www.smokescreeners.org |

Van Helsing is from start to finish nothing more than an overly long Saturday morning cartoon. It is fun and forgiveable at first, offering visions of Dracula, Frankenstein, and Mr. Hyde. Then, it takes us to Transylvania on the hunt for Dracula, werewolves, and bizarre incubating baby vampires that need the focused lightning from Frankenstein to both hatch and live. Last, it forgets to end. Many times. More than two hours of this is simply intolerable, though the first thirty minutes is a blast. |
