Plot Outline:

Hitchcock dispenses with much of the suspense in favor of macabre humor. In a beautiful Vermont village in autumn, Harry's dead body appears. Various townspeople, believing they have killed Harry, bury him, only to discover that they were not the culprit, requiring them to unearth Harry--again and again and again.

Maybe Hitchcock's most simplistic film, but also his most pedestrian. Though he abandons his usual twists and turns for a small-town whodunit mystery, the result is a little more boring than the rest of his work.

Oh wow, this is terribly bad. Save for Shirley MacLaine's first screen appearance. The script is laughably bad, yet she manages to work with it. I found the grave-digging scene to be aggravating. Blahhh.

Hitchcock tries out his hand at comedy, one of his least traveled paths. The Trouble With Harry will at first glance appear to be Hitchcock kind of taking a break from "serious" films, the thrillers and suspense films that he is best known for, and relaxing a bit with a light comedy, but there is much more going on in this film than that. First of all, only Hitchcock would come out with something that could be termed a "light comedy" when the central figure in the film from beginning to end is a dead body, but a lot of Hitchcock's standard themes are very prevalent in the film, even though it differs so much from his traditional style.
