A haunting film that raises all sorts of ethical questions. The sometimes unpleasant subject matter is hit home even harder because of the all-star cast, who all commit deeply to their roles, however villainous and morally gray. |

This movie is dark, and intense, and wonderful. It is really two movie in one. The first half is about a group of young boys growing up in Hell's Kitchen in the 1960s. The second half takes place in the 80s , and tells what has become of the boys. The first half of this movie is excellent. It's emotional and gritty and well acted by all of the child actors. The second half of the movie slows down a bit, but is still watchable due to it's sprinkling of eye candy curtosy of Brad Pitt and Billy Crudup. This is a good movie about revenge and lost innocense. |

A pretty dark story for pretty boys such as Brad Pitt. It started out enjoyable and pretty soon it was like wtf? Well anyway, moderately recommended. |

"Sleepers" by Yojimbo |
|
A group of four friends are sent to a boy's reform school when a prank goes wrong, and suffer brutality and sexual abuse at the hands of the guards. Years later two of them encounter one of their tormentors and summarily execute him, setting in motion a plan to expose those involved. Sleepers is based on a novel by Lorenzo Carcaterra who claimed that it is a true story. The highly contrived and convenient nature of the plot makes this seem highly unlikely, and so the claim actually undermines the story's credibility rather than vice versa. This is a shame, because it's actually an interesting spin on the courtroom drama presented by a quality cast. Kevin Bacon once again shows his characteristic bravery in selecting a part that is completely without sympathy, and he does a very good job, ... |

Hells Kitchen |

Sleepers" is an underrated tale of loyalty, friendship and ultimate revenge on the American Justice System. Despite having an all-star cast which includes stars Brad Pitt, Robert DeNiro, Kevin Bacon, and Dustin Hoffman plus future stars in Minnie Drive and Billy Crudup, the movie never became a major box office hit and has become almost forgotten many years after its theatrical release.
The story starts out following the lives of four children growing up in the Hells Kitchen section of New York. The kids decide to pull a prank which goes horribly wrong and lands them in a juvenile detention facility. While at the facility, the boys are verbally and sexually abused by the guards. Once they get released, they make a pact never to talk about what went on at the facility. Fast forward to a... |
