After "Stranger Than Paradise" but before "Clerks" there was "Slacker, a sharp collection of oddballs and misfits just living their lives.

'Slacker' is all one big collection of scenes involving different people just going about their day. It has a natural flow. Each new person that enters the frame hands it off to the next, and so on. Many situations are a bit of a bore, sometimes following in succession. But the weird, eccentric, and funny portions punctuate frequently enough. Interesting film.

This film raises randomness to an art form. A lot goes on, but nothing really happens - it's just people talking about everyday things, getting into everyday situations, and just living a very slacker lifestyle. If you want your kids to know what Gen X meant, this is probably the movie to show them.

Our Daily Free Stream: Richard Linklater - Slacker. Im Grunde ist es unmöglich, Richard Linklaters Film Slacker zu beschreiben, obwohl Linklaters Methode glasklar ist: Er will uns eine bestimmte Gruppe von Leuten zeigen an einem Tag zur selben Zeit. Linklater nennt diese Guppe "Slackers", wir kennen sie auch als "Hipster", "Bohemians" oder "Generation X". Es sind diejenigen, die ein Studentenleben führen und in Studentenstädten herumhängen. Obwohl der Film 1991 in Austin spielt, sieht das Szenario so aus wie ein ganz normaler Tag heute in Berlin Neukölln. Linklater zeigt eine Parallelwelt, in welcher der Kaffee immer nachgefüllt wird und sich die Protagonisten wundern, dass es überhaupt noch ein anderes Leben gibt ausserhalb des eigenem.
