Dumb and formulaic comedy in which trashy Whoopi Goldberg and a bunch of nuns teach each other life lessons. It couldn't be more predictable if it tried. |

This is a comedy built around as silly premise, but it carries itself with charm, wit, and energy. The music is also a standout that makes the film worth watching. |

I usually hate Whoopi, but Sister Act is pretty entertaining, what with the singing nuns and all. It's amazing what a little lounge singing can do for a Catholic choir. Implausible? Yes. Fun? Kind of. Good enough one time anyway. |

Fun Movie; Great Music |

Whoopi Goldberg plays Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer in Reno whose boyfriend (Harvey Keitel), is involved in a mob. When Deloris witnesses him killing an associate, she bolts to the police to report the crime. Lt. Eddie Souther (played by Bill Nunn) decides to put Deloris in the Witness Protection Program, by having her hide out as a nun in the convent, until the time comes for her to testify against her boyfriend. There are many hilarious moments as Goldberg tries to adjust to her new settings and becomes Sister Mary Clarence. She meets up with strict Conservative Maggie Smith as the head nun who insists that if she must hide, she must also adopt their sacred ways also. The two clash as Sister Clarence breathes new life into the convent by taking over the chorus and really livenin... |
