Major League Loss - James Gammon Dies at 70

James Gammon, character actor best known today for his role as the rugged Cleveland Indians coach Lou Brown in the Major League films, died on July 16th surrounded by friends and family.

The actor had been battling cancer of the adrenal gland and liver. Gammon had a long career in TV and film - including many western roles in the likes of Gunsmoke, Bonanaza and The Waltons. He also starred in 74 episodes of Nash Bridges playing Nick Bridges.

Besides Major League, Gammon had notable roles in Cold Mountain, Appaloosa, The Cell and Wyatt Earp. He also had guest starring roles in series ranging from Monk to Grey's Anatomy.
