A Black President? A-OK - But a Black Spiderman?

Seems the Internets are all abuzz over the campaign for Donald Glover, star of Community, to be the next Peter Parker/Spiderman in the upcoming reboot/prequel.

Hey, at least Glover is a fan of the series. With legions of Twitter and Facebook fans clamoring for his right to audition, if not play the hero, we could do worse. I mean look at the shortlist If Jaime Bell is the best they can do, maybe it is time to look beyond race.

Of course the main factor that would prevent is that traditionally movies with black leads tend to do less business in the international market, and for a film with a $70 million-plus budget, that is a valid concern for those who want to make the most money.

There is a strong, vocal group who would like to see this happen. I say why not give the man a chance? If only for an audition. I don't know if Hollywood can look beyond the color barrier for superheroes or not. It would be a nice change, though.

Hollywood only knows how to re-make movies and make bad sequels now-a-days, so it is no surprise.

Don't think it matters. This movie will suck anyway. Why reboot it? the first one was good. So are we on a 5 year reboot for everything now?
