Can Fincher Turn International Sensation Into American Sensation?

For the most part, I've enjoyed David Fincher's work. Also, I know he's good at adapting books into film - Fight Club anyone?

So if there was one person that was in charge of turning best-selling book, and currently acclaimed Swedish film, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, into an American remake, Fincher would be a great choice.

Remakes are tricky, but if Fincher always seems to favor darker films, plus if the rumored cast - Brad Pitt, Carey Mulligan, Johnny Depp and George Clooney - actually pans out, it would make things that much better.

Yes, I have a feeling that much of the sexual violence will be left out, but depending on what aspect of the story gets the most focus, that isn't a deal breaker. If the remake proves viable, the next two films will be filmed back-to-back (unfortunately sans Fincher) and released as well. Sound like the earliest we can expect this is December of 2011, so there's plenty of time to catch the original version to compare it to how Americanized it becomes.
