Shocking News About One of Our FilmCrave Co-Founders

It has come to our attention, that one of our FilmCrave co-founders, Alex Olson, owns and watches movies on a 32 inch, 4:3 tube TV. Really? Yes, it is true. You'd think about everyone out there by now has found a good deal on an LCD TV. But not our co-founder, who owns and runs a movie website. Why is this? Are the FilmCrave co-founders poor basterds that simply can't afford a new TV? Maybe, but that's too easy of an answer.

If you go to his house the first thing you'll see is a 350Z and Jaguar parked out front. Hmm.... Next, you go inside and walk down the stairs to his basement and find new carpet, prestigious leather furniture, granite countertops, and a marble floor, oh and his 32" tube TV. This seems quite odd, the TV sticks out like a sore thumb and just doesn't "complete" the room to me. It sure doesn't look like he couldn't afford one, so what is the deal here?

It is true that a proper cable TV package packed full of HD channels is quite expensive, but you don't have to subscribe to that. You can pick up many local networks over the waves in HD now. And does that even really matter? Probably not, not for a movie lover anyway. All that matters is watching movies, which can be done for $10 a month with a NetFlix subscription.

So why does this all matter? I thought for the last few months our co-founder was getting wrapped up in owning and running a movie website and is turning into a true movie critic. After-all, it's what anyone would expect. Rating movies and giving critical reviews just like other critics who think their opinion is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But I now realize, that isn't it. It is because he isn't watching movies the way they are meant to be watched, on a hi-def 16:9 LCD or LED TV. He simply can't enjoy movies on an old school 32" tube TV. Not in today's life style anyway. Why else would someone give Gran Torino a rating of 1.5/4, and 28 Weeks Later a 2/4? And of course, the new Star Trek movie, only a 2.5/4. All these movies deserve much better, and I think watching them on a new LED HDTV would do the trick. I actually recommend Alex get a Samsung 46-in 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV. It is true there are probably better TVs out there. But this is a large, solid LED TV for only $1370. For someone who hasn't even owned an HDTV yet, this will blow them away when they watch Star Trek in Blu-ray, and hopefully give the movie a better rating!

So for anyone reading this, treat this as a petition to convince our co-founder Alex to upgrade his TV now! Post what you think he should get, ask him questions on his profile. Let's do whatever it takes to make FilmCrave proud to be owned by our co-founder.

Come on, guys, leave Alex alone :). If the movie's good enough, you don't need a big screen to appreciate it. Full disclosure: I am rather proud of my little Sylvania TV/VCR (with DVD player attached). Almost ten years old and still going!

Oh and those movies that you mentioned (except maybe Star Trek, are actually quite bad movies. Have you ever seen a worse performance by Eastwood's cast in Gran Torino. That was predictable as hell!

46"? That is way too small. If I am going to upgrade I am going to upgrade! Though the one you pointed out to me seems pretty great, I may pick that on up first on my way to an 80" screen.

Hey, no fair, you got to post this before I did. Forget about getting your $10 back buddy. If I own a HDTV, I think it's time Alex moved out of the stone age as well.
