Will SNL Finally Learn Its Lesson?

You would think after It's Pat, Superstar, Ladies Man, Stuart Saves His Family, A Night at the Roxbury, Blues Brothers 2000 and The Coneheads that Lorne Michaels and SNL would get the message.

MacGruber seemed an odd choice for a film adaptation. I mean, the guy blows up every time - how do to even stretch that to over 5 minutes, let alone over an hour? Yet they tried - and if box office reports are any indication - utterly failed.

With competition from the fourth Shrek, along with Robin Hood and Iron Man 2... and Letters to Juliet, MacGruber is on track to open at under $5 million for opening weekend. Compared to other SNL films, that's not so bad, but compared to films in general, it's a stinker.

And, really, is anyone surprised? I openly ridiculed this idea and I know I wasn't the only one. Will SNL learn? Somehow I don't think so - it might leave a bad taste for a few years, but there will another skit-turned-film in the future, and it will most likely be just as bad.
