New Movies to Crave: It's the Bridesmaids vs. Priest in the Wackiest Wedding Ever (not really)

With only two new major releases opening this week, depending on how your tastes run it will either be a good week or a really boring one.

1) I'm going to go ahead and give the edge to Bridesmaids. All the advertising says this is a chick flick that guys can enjoy too. I remain skeptical, but they have put together a great cast with some heavyweight SNL vets amongst others. Whether this girl-power can match the might of The Hangover remains to be seen, but if enough of the target audience shows up, it has a chance to do well.

2) On the other hand the delayed release of Priest isn't a good sign. Actually, it reminds me of another movie starring Paul Bettany: Legion, which was mediocre at best. This looks like they tried to cram a lot of action into a ludicrous story and despite the promise of Maggie Q, I'm not biting. This will go into the "to rend sometime when I'm bored" pile and I have a feeling it's going to open in the middle of the pack.

3) For people who are near enough to see limited releases, Will Ferrell's Everything Must Go looks to be a little more dramatic than his typical fare - playing an alcoholic who decides to sell everything in order to start over. For those who prefer true stories, two documentaries are also being releases: L'amour fou explores the relationship between Yves Saint-Laurent and lover Pierre Bergé while The First Grader follows one 84-year-old Kenyan as he works towards the education he has finally been afforded.

I'll be back Sunday to see if Thor's lightning can strike twice or if the newcomers can manage to dethrone the Norse super hero.
