Weekend Box Office: It's Hairy Over Harry as Tangled Overtakes Potter

The post-Thanksgiving Hollywood Blahs were in full effect over the weekend as Tangled took the #1 spot in a relatively weak weekend.

The Disney film added $21.5 million to its total - dropping 56% but with $96.5 million will pass Enchanted and Princess and the Frog within the week to become the best non-Pixar opening for Disney. The 3D screens continued to help out, as over 50% of revenue came from the added dimension.

Meanwhile, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 fell to second place with $16.7 million, falling 67%. While it edges closer to $250 million, now standing at $244.2 million, it is not trailing Twilight: New Moon by close to $10 million while attendance compared to the other Potter films is also down.

The holdovers from last week dropped less with Burlesque and Unstoppable both earning $6.1 million and dropping 49% and 47% respectively. The musical now stands at $27 million while the train thriller has surpassed The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 at $68.9 million to become a modest hit for Denzel.

Not holding quite so well was the other animated film, Megamind, which dropped from 3rd to 6th place with a 60% hit and $5 million total. While Love and Other Drugs dropped only 42%, the $5.7 million total is still toward the lower end for the struggling romantic comedy genre.

The only new wide release film, The Warrior's Way found little followers as it opened to a weak $3.05 million for 9th place. It was a worse opening than like-minded films Dragonball Evolution, Punisher War Zone and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

In better news, Black Swan made a splash in limited release making $1.8 million in only 18 locations - better than comparable limited release film Up in the Air.

Next week should only add to the glut of family films as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader while more adult, and just maybe Oscar-worthy fare, comes in the form of The Fighter, The Tempest and The Tourist (no relation).
