Transformers: The Last Knight and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

By Chris Kavan - 05/31/17 at 11:00 AM CT

It looks like I'm not the only one still recovering from Memorial Day Weekend. It looks like the ratings board is taking things easy too. There is only one major release receiving its due and that would be the latest Michael Bay eye-candy disguised as a movie, Transformers: The Last Knight. I'm over the series. I stuck with it for far too long as far as I'm concerned it's just not worth it to feel the brain cells disappearing. It's dumb fun, but this time I think I'll wait until I can watch it from the comfort of my home.

Somehow, Bay's Transformers films have managed to make over $3.7 billion combined at the worldwide box office and over $1.3 billion in domestic returns. Look, I kind of understood the appeal when the first film came out - and even the sequel, but somehow, the more they released, the worse they got and yet the returns continued to climb. I find no reason why Transformers: The Last Knight is going to be any different - aside from the fact I'm going to ignore this one at the theater. Mark Wahlberg returns as every-man Cade Yeager, who finds himself once again embroiled in the Transformers saga. This time it's all out war between man and machine. In order to prevent annihilation on both sides, Cade will have to seek out Sir Edmund Burton (played by Sir Anthony Hopkins) who will reveal the secret history of the Transformers, where they worked side-by-side with mankind, and how it holds the key to stopping this war. Old friends are back: Josh Duhamel, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro all reprise their roles with newcomers Laura Haddock, Gemma Chan, John Goodman and Isabela Moner helping round out the cast. Even the trailers make my head hurt - all the Transformers films have been all flash, little substance and, as I stated, seem to be getting worse as things go along. And apparently we're getting at least two more of these because the rest of the world just can't get enough (like the Fast and the Furious series - only even more outlandish). I'm sure it will make boatloads of money - but I'm keeping my cash on hand this time around. Rated PG-13 for violence and intense sequences of sci-fi action, language, and some innuendo.

That's all folks! For the wide-releases, anyway. If you are so inclined, the full MPAA Ratings Bulletin can be found below:
