Saw IV review

A tape is found in John Kramer's (Tobin Bell) stomach during the autopsy. Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) is informed that the game has just begun based on the tape. Detective Kerry's (Dina Meyer) body was located and is investigated together with Peter Strahm (Scott Patterson) and Lindsey Perez (Athena Karkanis), two FBI agents. Everything seems to be rehashed such as the character of Eric Matthews, the video’s Jigsaw leaves and endless flashbacks. Strahm and Perez question Jigsaw’s ex wife Jill Tuck (Betsy Russell).

Ever since I saw the first Saw movie when it was released, I have been hooked to the series. Saw was great, Saw II was good and Saw III was great. Saw IV kind of wraps up all the plot holes and everything that we went through watching Saw III. It gets you cringing from all of the gore, torture and screwed up macabre sequences. Even though it has some ridiculous acting and some really unbelievable torture moments, I liked it.
The thing that really brought my attention to the Saw franchise was the amazing gore and torture scenes that began in the second movie. Some of the traps and moments are really disgusting and brutal. The film kind of took an attempt at making an emotional turn to the series, doing a good job. But a few of the torture scenes made me feel like throwing up. Even …

I think I'm all "Saw"-ed out. Sure, the torture is still somewhat interesting but the story has gone from bad to egregious since the first sequel. I rolled my eyes whenever the filmmakers tried to inject new life into the franchise while they seemingly try to put together the prior films. I would call it pretentious if it didn't stink of mediocrity. Still, the gore is there and there are few remaining twists that made me go, "Oh." But there's nothing much to recommend here because I felt like they were trying to stall until they reached the final act. But even the ending didn't deliver. In fact, it made me scoff and laugh (in that order). I would say they should stop while they're ahead but... well, they're not any longer. They've gone way down the rabbit hole and there is no going back. …
