A movie that carries a hefty hallmark "made for t.v." quality. Which equals - Murky performances, Poor pacing, Raggedy dialogue, and an attempt to smother you with sappy, sticky Emotion. (which of course turns out all wrong.)

I sense that Sandler's "Charlie Fineman" (a name that was uttered to the point of irritation, God forbid I ever meet an actual "Charlie Fineman"...) was intended to be a lovable mess, a hardened sweetie we can't help but adore despite him being just a little rough-around-the-edges...with the unkempt salt & peppery Tim Burton hairstyle crumpled by his always present earphones, and his all around ramshackle Bob Dylan-ness...but Failure. He annoyed rather than appealed, and every other character involved is dimensionless and bland.

Frustratingly slow. There were some really sad moments here, specifically when Adam Sandler finally opens up in the psychiatrist's office. Otherwise, for a story about a 9/11 victim, it's extremely lowkey to the point where I got kind of bored hearing the characters speak because they rarely say anything profound. With a little bit more focus and cutting this film a good twenty to thirty minutes, it would have been pretty good. By the time the conclusion presents itself, I hardly cared because I couldn't wait for the melancholy to end. There is one good thing about this movie: I am now convinced that Adam Sandler can carry on dramatic roles. Now that he's getting older, it would be interesting if he decides to immerse himself with serious dramatic films rather than raunchy, shallow …
