An early role for Kevin Sacey as he and his wife are held hostage in their middle class suburban home by cynical crook Dennis Leary and inevitable life lessons ensue. Some of the sniping and bickering is pretty funny, as is the increasingly exasperated Leary. Makes a nice change from the usual saccharine-soaked christmas mush.

A very funny, slightly dark comedy that plays off of dysfunctional family situations quite well. All three of the main players are equally good.

Crook takes hostages and gets taken hostage (so to speak). Screwed-up family has a crook as the at-first-reluctant referee in their battles and scrimmages, which continue during their time as hostages. Cops are closing in on the crook. Will his interventions bring the family together? Will he escape and leave the hostages unharmed? Will the Stockholm Syndrome rule? Denis Leary raw.

Dennis Leary is one of my all time favorite comedians, maybe its because he is from the area I grew up in, maybe its because he has opinion about everything, or maybe its because he just snaps all the time about 20 times a day. Kevin Spacey is very funny in this movie as he and his wife are in councelling and they are honestly contemplating divorce. Dennis Leary comes in to their lives after a botched burglary makes him the most wanted man in a small town on Christmas Eve. When most people ask me what my favorite Christmas movie is, they expect me to say something like It's a wonderful life, or Miracle on 34th Street. Nope, my favorite Christmas movie is The Ref.
