Punch Drunk Love review

If your into strange love stores with a crime story, this may appeal to you. A weird lonely business owner named Barry Egan (Adam Sandler) encounters a car crash wherein a mysterious harmonium was left on the street and meets Lena Leonard (Emily Watson). Barry tries to earn a million frequent flyer miles from a marketing glitch and calls a phone sex hotline for conversation. Dean Trumbell (Philip Seymour Hoffman), owner of a mattress store, is the Supervisor of "Georgia," the girl who wanted Barry's financial help.

Soundtrack was quite hypnotic much like Drive (2011). This film is admired by Judd Apatow since it clearly shows some dark humor. Pacing somewhat slow in the beginning then picks-up when trouble with the credit card/phone sex girl arises. Another baffling scene wher...

He is constantly berated and emotionally abused by each of his seven sisters, particularly Elizabeth (Mary Lynn Rajskub) who wants him to go out with her friend Lena (Emily Watson). Barry rebuffs Elizabeth's attempts to get him to go out with Lena, and after a glass-smashing fit of rage at a party held by his sisters, he returns home and calls a phone-sex ...

"Punch Drunk Love" by Yojimbo

An emotionally repressed salesman woos his sister's colleague but blackmailers from a phone sex line complicate matters. I hate Adam Sandler, I think he is the least funny man on the planet. I have been conned into watching his films in the past because of the talent associated (namely Anger Management featuring Jack Nicholson) and my opinion did not change. Here we have a film directed and written by the excellent Paul Thomas Anderson who was responsible for some brilliant films, not least of which the very funny Boogie Nights. Punch Drunk Love is not one of them; the only reason I knew that this was supposed to be a comedy is because it was written on the back of the DVD cover. When will film makers realise that weird does not automatically equal funny...? All of the characters in this ...
