None of the ugly duckling magic is apparent in this tired sequel which trots out ridiculous plot cliches and feels extremely phoned in. The lovable Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews inject some life into the otherwise dead script, but can't completely salvage the film.

The Sequel Gods yet again punish us for our decadent ways in this Garry Marshall abortion, "Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement." It seems as if the characters that we all grew to love from the original movie suddenly dissolved, the characters that the two leads grew to be, developed into, and became were all of a moment gone, in a blink of a Garry Marshall eye. A very weak sequel to a lusterous beginning. Oh, and the plot twists are more like plot dents, supporting an all-to-heard-of sequel formula, evolving into an even less than ravishing venture.

julie andrews does a fantastic job in this movie as the grandmother. and guess what she sings! she actually did a duet with raven just for this movie.
