This is the first and best of the series, full of simplicity and tension in a unique sci-fi world. Vin Diesel gives an understated performance here that conveys more emotion and intensity than in any of his future, more action-oriented roles.

With an ALIEN reboot on the horizon we must question why ALIEN never went this route. This is the closest thing in cinema to Dark Horse's wonderful Alien vs. Predator comics and it makes the AVP schlok-fest look like amatuer hour at Showtime at the Apollo. The pure kinectic force and diverse characters don't quite capture the deep metaphorical premises of ALIEN, but it stands alone as a great sci-fi flick nonetheless and deserves it's place as "unique".

Pitch Black is an entertaining stylish sc-fi / horror film. The movie does become routine from a storyline perspective,The acting is solid. Vin Diesel is perfect for the role of Riddick. Although there are a few surprises when considering who lives through the end of the movie. I definitely did not correctly predict who would be the final surviving group. The outdoor sequences with the multiple suns are well photographed. I liked the the scene of a ringed planet sliding across the sky on its way to block out the sun.

Pitch Black is a really well done movie. It proves that you don't need a famous cast and over the top special effects to have a great sci-fi movie. Don't get me wrong the effects are good, just not the real focus of the movie. Its a sci-fi about the characters as all good sci-fi should be. A sparse landscape filled with all manner of terrible creatures both human and otherwise. A good movie for lovers of sci-fi that makes you jump!

This movie was great. Sheer awesomeness. The characters were realistic. The special effects were really good. Vin Diesel is a complete badass in the movie. Although he is realistic and a survivalist he shows real human connection with the other characters. He was born to play this role.

Pitch Black is a film that is great for the budget that it had this movie is quite amazing. I love the effects and how they "shined" Disels eyes to give him a more interesting look. The story is fast paced, the effects are amazing and the conflict between the characters is well established. A great film all around!
