Iconinc Horror movie and the introduction of one of the Big Three of Horror (Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers). Insanely original (for the time it was made), and groundbreaking. While not as gory by todays standards, it offers, sheer psychological Terror, ex. Don't fall asleep, the children jump roping and spouting that creepy rhyme. A Icon of the Horror Genra.

This is a definite horror-ism. Again a unique breakthrough in this genre. WES CRAVEN is a scary name. His streak of iconic film productions and movie characters such as FREDDY KRUEGER tells you enough about this man oozing with blood-splashing stories of the night. Not quite a collision between fantasy and reality, but an intrusion of someone's dream by a devilish character named Freddy. Easily a classic.

Action: 2/3 + Comedy: 0.5/2 + Love/Sex: 0.5/1 + Plot: 1/1 + Music: 0.5/1 + Good vs. Evil: 1/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 = 6/10 or 60%. The scare tactics here are great! One's dreams can be about anything, but the dark turn shifting one's entire reality to a nightmarish freak show are only tics away. The carved knife hand and the burnt body of Freddy Krueger supplied one of the better and more likeable 80's horror villains. The beginning is tough, but that's how unappreciated, low-budget horror gems start.

Your typical great, classic horror movie. Freddy is, of course, the coolest villian ever created on film. Everyone loves him! What a cult classic!

This film scared me more than most others. I know it's not real, but the movie does the greatest job of making you belive it is real and that's what makes it so scary.

When i was 5 i would look on the back of the Nightmare on Elm street cases in the movie store and i would get nightmares. Now that ive watched the movie i realize that Wes Craven is a visionary in the horror genre. Freddy Krueger will scare me for years to come

It looks pretty dated now, but Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic horror film in its own right. It has all the ingredients: creepy story, horrifying villain, scared kids and gruesome deaths. For better or worse, it made horror hip again.
