A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge was actually a great film. Sure, it's not as great as other films, but it actually did something unique. Even though it wasn't the best idea, it still was good.

The story is about a new family moves into an old house on Elm st. and their 17 year old boy starts having nightmares of a burn old man in a green and red sweater. What he dreams is slowly becoming too real to be true. This movie is chilling and frighting.

Not really sure how a formula that worked in the original is then altered in a sequel. The plot may have been entertaining but the idea of having a conclusion that elicits another film was too obvious. Bringing in more people to kill and making it gory doesn't mean a better film. The bisexual innuendos (no chicks allowed sign, closeness of the male characters, etc.) doesn't help either. A mediocre effort from a growing franchise, this one misses its mark.

It's a guilty pleasure of mine. Most fans of the series will dismiss this entry for breaking a couple rules established in the first film, but they are overlooking the unique things that make this one so different from the rest.

Action: 2/3 + Comedy: 0/2 + Love/Sex: 1/1 + Plot: 0/1 + Music: 1/1 + Good vs. Evil: 1/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 = 5.5/10 or 55%. The master of dreams and nightmares, yielding knife fingers, and with the power to alter dream realities into his liking is approaching you. Does one kiss him, alter their own dreams to fight him, or give up and die. That's right! You kiss him! That's how you defeat Freddy here.

Even though Freddy doesn't appear nearly enough in this film, this one probably has one of the better story lines (almost too good for a slasher film). Some people think they messed up the formula too much, but I think this holds up well.
