Near Dark

This is another film that is just recently finding it's audience, and that's something to be happy about, because man, this a cool and very original film that has it's own unique play on the vampire idea.
The new contemporary, urban-western play on the vampire, makes it so much more realistic, and it's intense use of the weakness of daylight and no fangs, or coffins, or bats, or crucifixes, it's all really different and thorough.
I love how this is directed by Katherine Bigelow, a person who would be the only female, Best Director winner at the Oscars, and this is one of if not her best film.
She couldn't have found a better and more genuine cast for the travelling nomads that are the vampire. Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, Jenette Goldstein, (all players from Aliens) so well with …

Flawed but still interesting to watch

I enjoyed watching this movie, but I did feel that it wasn't as good as Lost Boys. Near Dark was more thought-provoking than Lost Boys, but had so many holes that I had trouble just enjoying it for what it was... an 80's vampire flick. These group of vampires lived night-to-night without any reason but to kill until the new guy "Caleb Colton" came along and fell in love with one of the vampires.

For vampires who can live forever and do really what ever they want, as long as they stay out of daylight, they sure were a bit retarded. In the week span that we saw they almost died every morning because day light crept up on them each time. Furthermore, they would black out the windows of their car with spray paint and tape to protect them from the sun, yet their clothing didn't seem to …
