A Oriental Cinderella-type romance!

Some people think that a geisha is a "sophisticated prostitute". That is not true. As Memeha (Chiyo's mentor) says, "A geisha does not sell her body, but her talents." A geisha is actually an artist, and to be a geisha is to be judged as a moving work of art.

This movie is about a young girl called Chiyo who is sold to a geisha house, and is subject to cruel treatment. But that all stops when they head of the Okiya (her geisha house) realizes Chiyo could become a popular and wealthy geisha. A fued begins between her and Hatsumomo (the beautiful geisha who lives in the Okiya) when she begins to feel threatened by Chiyo's beauty. Chiyo name soon becomes Sayuri, a popular and loved Geisha. But when war breaks out, her Geisha days are over, and she has to give up everything she worked so hard for.

This is such a sad movie, remembering Chiyo's young and hopeful face at the age of 9, and then seeing the beautiful and accomplished face of a Geisha, and thinking about all the things she had to go through. If you are going to watch this movie, I …
