"Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels" by Yojimbo

When a cocky young poker hustler finds himself in debt with a local gangster he and his friends hatch a plan to steal the loot from a crew of shady criminals who live next door. Guy Ritchie's debut was very much a film of its time and as is usually the case with "zeitgeist" movies, it has dated surprisingly quickly. The cheeky cockney dialogue feels very forced and cliched by today's standards and the film as a whole looks rather cheap and crude. The gleeful irreverence brought to table by Ritchie's knowingly silly script saves the day however, and the story gets more and more entertaining as it gets less and less plausible. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1999)

Four very inept criminals, one a cardsharp (Nick Moran), another a future entrepreneur (Tom Flemyng), a third named Bacon (Jason Stratham) and the fourth called "Soap" because unlike his three mates, he likes to keep his fingers clean by dabbling into a legitimate occupation, baking (Dexter Fletcher) find themselves in a desperate situation when, following a poker game with a notorious London gangster named Hatchet Henry, who has rigged the game, unbeknownst to Eddie. When Eddie loses the money the quartet now owe the mobster half a million pounds. Harry's collector, Big Chris (Vinnie Jones), has been assigned to make sure the boys pay within a week or start sizing up their fingers for amputation.

There are twists, turns and intersections in this story that it keeps you guessing at how...

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels review

Bacon (Jason Statham), Soap (Dexter Fletcher), Tom (Jason Flemyng), and Eddy (Nick Moran) put together £100,000 so that Eddy, a genius at cards, can use the money to pay the entree fee into one Harry "The Hatchet" Lonsdale's (P. H. Moriarty). Eddy looses and now owes half a million to Harry. A gang of thieves led Dog strategizes a heist on some marijuana growers supposedly loaded with cash and drugs. Tom acquires a pair of antique shotguns from an underground dealer, known as Nick "the Greek" (Stephen Marcus), who also strikes a deal with Rory Breaker. Rory Breaker (Vas Blackwood) realized that the drugs he was going to purchase were stolen.

Had a truckload of characters and plot was a bit confusing because of the figures popping-up back and forth. Soap’s character and dialogues a...
